What should you do if you lost your Passport Malaysia and IC?

So you lost your IC and Passport in JB - How do you get a replacement and get back to work across the causeway the soonest?

1. First you must file a police report - the report must be endorsed by an officer stationed at the police station - you need to pay RM4 for each piece (actually, one is enough). Then, get it photocopied at least for 4 copies (of course more is better in this context) - the copies are for the purpose of getting your new passport and temporary entry (sijil kejalanan cemas) to Singapore
2. Go apply for a new MyKad immediately. You need to pay RM30 for a replacement (1st time). After you have completed the photo shoot, the officer over the photo taking counter should issue you a temporary document (an enlarged version of your IC in A4 size paper actually). Then, get it photocopied for 5 copies - for the same purpose as described above.

3. You should proceed to apply for a new passport now. Go and take photo - you need 4 copies.

4. Go to the immigration office and do the following (sequence is important!):
a. Obtain 2 green forms (for passport application) - one for the new passport, the other for the temporary passport so that you can go back to Singapore without waiting for a month!! You need to pay RM2 for 2 forms though.

b. Obtain another form - IM42C for the purpose of making a declaration - it will be witnessed by the Commissioner for Oaths. Same thing, pay RM1 for the form.

c. fill out a green form for the purpose of applying for a new passport (due to Hilang).

d. fill out the other green form for the purpose of applying for a temporary passport (due to Hilang)

e. fill out the IM42C - if you are very conversant with Bahasa, you can fill it out by yourself, if not, it is easier to engage help by those "fill form agent" - they charge RM30 for filling out the form and get it witnessed. If not , you need to get it endorsed by the Commissioner for Oaths - there are many Commissoners, just opposite the immigration building.

f. Prepare 2 photos, 2 copies of police report, 2 copies of temporary IC, 2 copies of Birthcert, one green form (for new passport), 1 IM42C - go up to the second floor - find Counter No. 1 - for Hilang Passport. No need to get queue number downstairs. Just go straight to the counter and submit the form. Then you will wait for a letter issued by the counter - the letter tells you that you should be able to hear from them on "whether your application is approved" in a month. You also need to bring this letter with you when you apply for the temporary passport.

g. Then you will proceed to apply for a temporary pass(port) so that you can travel between JB and Singapore without waiting for a month. Prepare 2 copies of photos, 2 copies of temporary IC, 2 copies of Police reports, 2 copies of Birthcert (all original must be present), a letter from your employer to prove your employment, your work permit, or the multiple entry permit issued by Singapore when you applied for your PR. (More detailed process is given below)

h. DON'T obtain a queue number at the ground floor. Go straight to the second floor where a lot of people are waiting for their turn to submit their applications (I think it is counter 1 - 14).

i. Enter a room of which a sign (no entry, for authorised access only). There locates a higher authorty officer's room. Well, you don't get to see this officer (at least that's my experience). You will greet the ?secretary outside the office and tell her your intension. Next thing is important - you will either get the thing you want (because you qualify and they can't make it difficult for you) or you don't (because you do not qualify).

j. (1) If you are a permit holder - you should produce a letter (or fax) from your employer to prove that you are currently working in Singapore.
(2) make sure you bring your permit with you too. If you have lost it too, try to find something else to prove that you are allowed to work there.
(3) Multiple entry is allowed to be issued to work permit holder. (Don't know why though - according to them, it's because they assume that you travel in and out on a work day basis).
(4) Of course, if you need only single or double entry, that's up to you too.

k. (1) If you are a permanet resident there - of course you don't have the permit card. So you MUST bring the multiple entry permit which was issued by Singapore when you first applied for your PR. The permit shows your photo, and two thumb prints (left and right).
(2) According to them, a PR does not qualify for a multiple entry pass(port). They say it is because - you qualify to stay there, and it is your purpose of getting a PR - because you want to stay there. (Do you think you can argue with them at all? think again before you do.....)
(3) At most they can issue a double entry one.
(4) What if you really need a multiple entry one for whatever reason you have? Well.... please... ask for 'tolong'. I will leave it to you to settle between yourselves then.....
(5) After your application is accepted, proceed to wait for your name to be called at the waiting areas for passport collection (I think it's counter no. 15 - ..?)

Good Luck!!!!
